About The Series

 

Venue

Cotswold Water Park, Lake 32 (Waterland Outdoor Pursuits), Spratsgate Ln, Cirencester GL7 6DF - just off A419 (between Swindon and Cirencester). A clear, fresh water lake, which is used for swimming on a regular basis, as well as paddle board and canoe hire. There are changing and toilets on-site, hot catering provided and plenty of room for spectator viewing. 

Events

There will be two events held in 2022, the first on Saturday 18th June and the second on Saturday 10th September. Both events will have a 750m, 1.2 mile (1.9km) and 2.4 (3.8km) mile option. We have included a combo entry so you can take part in both events for as little as £40.00!

Cotswold Big Swim - 750m

 

Open to anyone who can cover the distance, Ideal for those wanting an early season tester or taking their first step into open water

swimming (minimum age 11 as at 31/12/22). Please note wetsuits are strongly recommended.

Cotswold Big Swim - 1.2 mile (1.9km)

 

Open to anyone who can cover the distance, Ideal for those wanting an early season tester or taking their first step into open water

swimming (minimum age 14 as at 31/12/22). Please note wetsuits are strongly recommended.

Cotswold Big Swim - 2.4 mile (3.8km)

 

Open to anyone who can cover the distance (minimum age 16 as at 31/12/22). Anyone aged under 16 must be a regular club swimmer and their parents must sign a disclaimer/permission form on the morning of the event to confirm they can easily cover the distance. Please note wetsuits are strongly recommended.

Course

 

The swim will take place in a clear gravel bottom lake over a multi-lap course which will be GPS measured, clearly marked and have a full safety crew. Wetsuits are strongly recommended for these events.

Start time

750, at 08:00, 1.2 mile event 08:05 and 2.4 mile event straight after. This will be using a rolling start method.

Results

 

All results will be available as you finish and a live link will be provided. Full race results will be posted on this website Saturday evening after the event.

Special team July Prizes

July one mile Phil Millard Memorial Trophy. A truly incredible man, who inspired and coached generations of swimmers; including two Olympians in Jazz Carlin and Grant Turner. Phil sadly passed away in 2018 and we hope this trophy will act as a special reminder for a very special swim coach and more importantly a very special person. First team will be for the first three (male or female) from a team to cross the finish in the 1 mile event - cumulative positions will count, lowest score wins.

July two mile Ferris team trophy. In honour of Lorraine and Kev Ferris, the founders of The Cotswold Big Swims, for their dedication and hard work to the sport of triathlon for over 20 years, we are proud to continue these wonderful events. First team will be for the first three (male or female) from a team to cross the finish in the 2 mile event - cumulative positions will count, lowest score wins.

Special team September Prizes

September one mile Glenys France Memorial Trophy. A true ambassador to swimming helping promote the sport from local county events to European and World Championships. The 'Glenys France Memorial Team Trophy' will be presented to the winning team in the One Mile event for the first five (male or female) from a team to cross the finish line - cumulative positions will count, lowest score wins. 

How to get there

From London, the South East and The South West - M4 Junction 15. Take dual carriageway A419 towards Swindon, then follow A417/419 towards Cirencester. After approx 10 miles take B4696 Spine Road, sign-posted Cotswold Water Park. Carry on along Spine Road for two miles, straight over at the cross-roads and then take the first turning on your right into Spratsgate Lane. Waterland Entrance is 200m on the right (Do NOT use park main/barrier entrance or you will have to pay).

From Wales/Bristol area - M4 Junction 17, take A429 Towards Malmesbury, bypass Malmesbury on A429 and head for Cirencester, at Crudwell take right turn to Oaksey, follow road through Oaksey (The Street) to Spine Road West. You will pass junctions on the left for Poole Keynes and then Somerford Keynes, Spratsgate Lane is next on your left just after Somerford Keynes. Waterland entrance is 200m on the right (Do NOT use main park barrier entrance or you will have to pay).

From Gloucester area take A417/A419 passing Cirencester and head towards Swindon. Approx four miles from Cirencester turn off at Junction for B4696 Spine Road, sign-posted Cotswold Water Park. Carry on along Spine Road for two miles, straight over at the cross-roads and then take the first turning on your right into Spratsgate Lane. Waterland entrance is 200m on the right (Do NOT use main park barrier entrance or you will have to pay).

Parking

Parking will be £3 on the day and be across two site locations for competitors and spectators. From Waterland gates, turn right, proceed to field and follow marshal instructions; PLEASE TRY TO SHARE CARS WHERE POSSIBLE.
